Today, I woke up to a very lively scene and saw that Ethereum:0x75231f58b43240c9718dd58b4967c5114342a86c surged 15%. That must mean @okxchinese has something new. Honestly, I carefully read the Exchange OS content but didn't fully understand it. Of course, I know it's about building an on-chain exchange with spot and futures trading, including prediction markets.
But what exactly is this thing? I checked many things, including the white paper, but didn't fully understand them. I only knew that the matching engine, margin management, clearing, risk control, settlement, etc. were placed directly on the blockchain protocol layer, then divided into two layers: X Layer EVM and X Layer TradeZone.
In other words, it uses a combined architecture of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks. The X Layer EVM is based on Ethereum's zkEVM Layer 2, and its technical framework is based on Polygon CDK. This layer is responsible for on-chain assets, contracts, deposits and withdrawals, staking, governance, and final settlement.
Users deposit assets into contracts, which record the balance, and withdraw from the contract after trading. Asset custody, deposits and withdrawals, final settlement, governance execution—this layer is essentially the same as most DEXs or Perps nowadays—it's all infrastructure.
The most complex is probably the X Layer TradeZone. TradeZone handles matching, margin, liquidation, liquidation, PnL, and funding rate settlement. The white paper doesn't clearly specify which framework it uses, but it does provide four main cores: Margin Engine, Liquidation Engine, and Settlement Engine. There's nothing new, and the most difficult is probably matching Engine's matching engine.
But the Matching Engine doesn't provide a very detailed introduction. If OKX were to run its own exchange, the matching system would only serve OKX itself, with rules, assets, risk control, and liquidity all controlled by OKX. But Exchange OS aims to cover the entire market, which means Matching Engine cannot serve a single product but must become a foundational matching capability shared across multiple markets.
The difficulty here lies in the fact that different markets have different assets, different oracles, different leverage, different risk parameters, and different liquidity depths, but the underlying matching and account systems must remain unified. This should be quite challenging, but if it can truly be perfectly achieved, there is great potential.
Then there's OKB staking. This is understandable, but the actual purpose of OKB staking isn't very clear. However, it's imaginable that in the future, a large number of people will borrow "OKB" because the purchase cost is too high, but borrowing is relatively simpler. If a "crowdfunding pool" for borrowing OKB could be realized, it would be even more interesting.
Brother Short Bird, is @Wangduanniao spring coming?

DYOR.
